And grand it was, the official opening!

It has been a lot of hard work, but in the end it was every bit worth it: Friday 26 August we organized the celebratory opening, which was attended by representatives of various organisations, church leaders, residents of our community home, participants of the activities club, neighbours and friends, and members of the Asamblea and the Ruach foundation board members.

A priest opened the proceedings with a prayer, asking for a blessing for the Ruach foundation. Later in the programme a vicar blessed our home. The latter is quite unusual in catholic Nicaragua, but, given our ecumenical outlook on life, this was important to us.

Only a minority of the authorities that we invited showed up, but those who came were the ones that we most closely work with: the representatives from the Ministry of Health in charge of ‘people with disabilities’ and from the Ministry of Family Affairs. Even Jonathan danced She took the opportunity to congratulate us and to express her hope that our work may continue for a long time! There was also a representative of Feconuri , a council we have recently joined of organizations that work for ‘disabled’ people. In my word of welcome I read out the congratulation email from the Vivir Juntos foundation and mentioned many people who could not be with us on this day but who are with us in spirit, among them many international friends who have contributed in various ways.

The gathering was closed with live music by ‘chicheros’ and even Jonathan took to the dance floor (see picture).
