Juigalpa

Juigalpa is the capital of the Chontales region. Nicaragua consists of 15 regions and 2 autonomous territories. Because animal husbandry is a main source of livelihood, Chontales is known as the region where the rivers are made of milk and the rocks of cheese. The town, which gained town rights in 1879, is located 140 kilometers from the capital Managua and 30 km from Lake Nicaragua. Juigalpa has between 55,000 and 80,000 inhabitants.
