Finish your year with a grand gesture: sponsor Eric’s run and add a little extra to our work in Juigalpa!
In the previous Newsletter we brought Eric’s initiative to your attention and he wrote about what moves him to do this run. Soon the day of the Run on New Year’s Eve is upon us. How are Eric’s preparations going? He writes:
“It’s great to have an excuse to go out running more often. So I’m getting into good shape physically. I’ve planned a beautiful 26 km route from Sherborne Abbey via mostly single-file country roads where ‘runner’ and ‘car driver’ would need to negotiate how to pass each other. It’s a hilly route too with some very steep sections. Hopefully I’m old and wise enough to take it easier on such sections to maintain my rhythm and the enjoyment of the experience.
The plan is that I will be ‘shot off’ at 10:30 a.m UK time from the Abbey Close by a friend of Sherborne’s “Stop The Litter Campaign” with his litter picking stick. At about the 15 kilometer mark I’ll be in Milborne Port, the village of a good friend and generous donor, for a brief roadside rehydration break.
To advertise the run in my own circle of friends and family is time-consuming but rewarding work. In England as well as in the Netherlands several people have pledged or already paid an amount. This is fantastic, also given that Christmas is a busy time for most people and they would need more time to respond.
It is very motivating to talk with people about the Ruach community, irrespective of whether they are able to donate, and I feel that I’m not the only one who is touched by this special ‘project’. That really adds joy to my day.
